  Bolivia

To the Rooftop of South America

DESCRIPTION:

Peaks, rivers, jungles, salt flats, and remote expanses: Bolivia boasts astounding natural diversity and cultural wealth. This is adventure-travel land, largely un-touristed, diverse, perplexing, and difficult to navigate as an individual; a place made easier traveling with a guide. Our reward: the historical and spiritual richness of Latin America’s most indigenous nation are astounding. Nature lovers will find landscapes unlike any other on the planet. A highlight will be Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flats, an evocative and eerie place with incredible scenery: red, green, and white lagoons dotted with pink flamingos; volcanoes; striking rock formations; hot springs; geothermal geyser fields; and colorful mountain ranges with herds of roaming vicuna. Learn about Bolivia’s cultural legacy of important crops such as chocolate, coffee, sugar, coca, and quinoa, which are now shifting Bolivia into a world of modern trade. Visit Lake Titicaca, home to indigenous people and Inca sites, wander bustling markets, see historic colonial sites – all on the rooftop of South America, ranging from 13,000–16,000 feet!
