Iceland
Days of Wonder, Nights of Color

DESCRIPTION:
Waterfalls, volcanoes, geysers, black sand beaches, and even a sled dog ride fill the days – short as they are – in this Icelandic winter wonderland. Nights will hopefully provide a luminous green and black spectacle of night-sky color known as the Aurora borealis. After a brief stay in Reykjavik, escape the bright lights of the city in search of the a better location from which to view the northern lights on Iceland’s more remote southern coast. Make an attempt each evening as advised by the guides pending weather conditions and visibility. During the days, witness spectacular waterfalls, and see the only place in the world where one can see tectonic plates drift apart. Take a dog sled ride, visit greenhouses heated by geothermal energy, travel by Jeep to the “Valley of the Gods” – a dramatic fjord – and explore a great ice cave. Optional helicopter flight over active volcanoes. Because this tour is weather dependent, northern light sightings are not guaranteed. With luck, the nights will be as spectacular as the days!
CONSIDER:
To see the Aurora Borealis, it is best to travel around November - February or sometimes mid-August. However, Iceland is also beautiful from very late spring to very early summer.
