Jungle Kingdoms of the Ancient Maya

Mexico, Guatemala & Honduras
DESCRIPTION:

The realm of the ancient Maya is truly like a different world, full of contrasts: spectacular ancient art, writing, and architecture; today’s indigenous peoples; and exotic tropical plants and animals. Explore ancient Maya sites in the dense, tropical rainforests of Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. We take our time to see eight (possibly nine) of the most remarkable ancient sites of the lowland Maya, four of which are World Heritage sites. With three nights each at Tikal and Copán, we will have ample time to relax, reflect, and enjoy lectures and our comfortable hotels and remote jungle lodges. Gain fascinating insights about Maya art, architecture, and epigraphy. Explore huge temple-pyramids that soar above the rainforest, see enormous stelae (carved monoliths), painted frescoes, stucco friezes, and carved lintels, and encounter tropical a variety of colorful mammals and birds.

CONSIDER:
