Mediterranean Island Wonders

DESCRIPTION:
Travel through history on this custom-designed program to the glorious Mediterranean Islands, timed to coincide with the profusion of spring wildflowers. Explore beautifully preserved archeological monuments and breathtaking natural habitats.
See the lush forests and spectacular coastal cliffs of Malta, teeming with birds and butterflies; on the nearby island of Gozo, tour remarkably well-preserved ruins of temples hundreds of years older than Stonehenge. Visit medieval citadels and wander the narrow streets of the old cities and towns, stopping to admire the handmade lace and metalwork still produced by hand.
In Sicily, explore the extensive archaeological site of Syracuse, the former Greek capital of Sicily, and explore the Greek theater, Roman amphitheater, and the Ear of Dionisio. In the picture-perfect hilltop of Taormina, discover an ancient city filled with restaurants, galleries, and shops. Hike through Cava Grande Del Cassibile, a canyon with more than 400 species of wild plants. Travel 6,000 feet up Mount Etna to view wildflowers among rich orchards, vineyards and lava fields.
Then fly to Sardinia with its mountains, plains and breathtaking coastline. Its Neolithic sites, called Nuraghe, are fascinating and found only on Sicily; its Phoenician sites are also not to be missed.
