Journey through Rajasthan

DESCRIPTION:
After arriving in Delhi, take a train to Ranthambore for two days of game drives in search of tiger, Sambar deer, wild pig, sloth bear and even leopard, to name a few. Then visit Jaipur, the famous “Pink City”, and stay at the splendid Rambagh Palace Hotel, once used as a hunting lodge for royalty. From this charming base, enjoy the sites of Jaipur, known for its stunning palace-fortress of Amber Fort and the City Palace. Next, drive to the Gajner Palace, just outside Bikaner, and the former hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Bikaner. Gajner is a beautiful palace on the edge of a lake alive with birds. It is a green oasis to be relished amid the desert of Rajasthan.
From Gajner travel to Jodhpur, stopping en route in Nagaur to view the Nagaur Fort, with its old town walls, 5-domed mosque and shrine. Jodhpur, the capital of the medieval Marwar kingdom, is situated at the southern edge of the Thar Desert. Within Mehrangargh Fort’s festooned walls, we will wander through the honeycomb-like maze of palaces, courtyards and pulsating bazaars. Stop for one night in Ranakpur to view this city’s Jain temples. Jainism is a fascinating religion founded in India about the same time as Buddhism. The temples here are exquisitely carved; central complex here contains 1444 intricately carved pillars, each unique. Conclude up at the lovely Shivniwas Palace in Udaipur, where we will have time to rest, go shopping and see the sites, including the palaces and museums of the Maharana of Udaipur. In the old city of Udaipur, we will wander through crooked streets, narrow lanes, viewing tiny shops that sell a vast variety of merchandise to its populace. We will enjoy lunch at one of the Maharana’s private hunting lodges, and conclude our journey with a dinner cruise aboard a medieval royal barge on beautiful Lake Pichola.
